Synopsis
This report covers the ten countries expected to join the EU on 1 May 2004: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Cyprus and Malta. All have been required to align their telecommunications regulation and legislation with that of the EU as part of the membership qualification process. The ten countries cover a wide spectrum of both economic and telecommunications development. This report discusses the degree of alignment achieved by each country, compares their telecommunications markets with those of the EU and outlines investment by EU operators in the region.
