Europe - Broadcasting - Digital TV

Synopsis

Europe is the largest developed TV market in the world outside of the USA and holds great promise in the development of digital TV services over the cable, satellite and terrestrial platforms. This report profiles the state of digital TV in Europe, presenting statistics, forecasts and historical data. It also covers the development of digital terrestrial TV across the region, noting standardisation and Set-top Boxes (STBs), as well as licensing and analogue switch-off issues following the September 2003 European Commission (EC) directive for Member States to indicate their analogue switch-off. Interactive TV, assessing the most successful applications, is addressed in its own report.
