Synopsis
Archived report: this report was archived on 19 October 2005 and has not been updated. The report provides information on ADSL and cable modem networks in Europe in 2004. Competition, either between incumbents and new entrants, or between different technology options (mainly cable vs DSL) is helping to drive prices down and increase availability. Pressure from the European Commission (EC) and National Regulatory Authorities (NRAs) is also helping to promote broadband uptake, though this evident in some countries more than others. Other access options, such as Fibre-to-the-Home (FttH), and wide area Wireless networks (WLAN/WMAN), remain marginal to overall broadband market growth.
