Synopsis
Energis Plc was initially a provider of voice and data telecommunication networks in the UK and Europe. Its UK backbone network is nearly 7,000km long, utilising the national grid’s electricity transmission infrastructure and the regional electricity company’s main distribution lines and the London Underground network. In 2001, the company started to display major cash flow problems and was declared insolvent in July 2002. It was then acquired by a consortium of its creditors. Since 2001 it has been selling off its overseas operations and now provides Internet services in the UK.
