Emerging Markets - The Future of Mobile Broadband and the Internet of Things

Telecom Investment Research Note

Synopsis

With the development of high-speed broadband infrastructure now well and truly underway in many countries, it is important to look at what will be the real value of this new infrastructure. The infrastructure that is now being built starts offering a range of features such as ubiquitousness, affordability, low latency, high speed and high capacity. It will link millions of devices, such as sensors, that will enable us to manage our environment, traffic, infrastructures, and our society as a whole much more efficiently and effectively.

This ‘Internet of Things’ is going to be a real game-changer. It will transform every single sector of society and the economy and it will be out of this environment that new businesses – and indeed new industries will be born.

This report provides insights into the core requirements for building smart companies, cities and demonstrates that the building of smart communities is well underway in many parts of the world. While both fixed and mobile broadband can be used as the infrastructure of the Internet of Things for most emerging economies the only short to medium option is mobile broadband and for that reason this reports concentrate on mobile broadband infrastructure.
