Digital Media - Home Media Centres, Home Networks & DVR

Synopsis

Archived report. The report was archived in 2010 and has not been updated since. Home networking and home media centres continue to evolve and the technologies are converging to incorporate a variety of consumer electronics devices, from digital TVs, to multi-room DVRs, digital media adapters, set top boxes, Blu-ray players and game consoles. The drive to incorporate IP-based connectivity in more consumer electronic (CE) and PC devices is being driven by both telecom/network operators and consumer electronics manufacturers. TVs are fast becoming the focus for home media centres and some TVs and game consoles, such as a flat panel display by Vizio and Microsoft’s Xbox 360, can already stream movies and content straight from the Internet. Sales of networked TV equipped with wireless functionality are also expected to increase in the years ahead.
