Though digital cable TV gets much of the attention in the upcoming converged media environment in China, digital satellite TV and digital terrestrial TV will play key roles, as well. Despite the government setting ambitious roll-out targets for digital TV, the take up rate has been slow and the government has had to review its targets and its approach. Besides focusing on these two media markets, this report looks at the steps China is taking to develop the iTV market. iTV has the potential to turn Chinese TV viewers into online participants and buyers. In addition, this report includes information on some of the players in China’s satellite TV and iTV markets.
