Synopsis
Chile is viewed as a role model by the international business community for its competitive free market approach. The country’s telecom sector is one of the most developed in Latin America, with a state-of-the-art infrastructure and regulatory system. Even while the country’s GDP was contracting during the global economic crisis, the telecom sector continued to expand. The 2010 outlook is promising, the country having rebounded well from its mild recession. The government has several regulatory projects in the pipeline, including number portability – which is scheduled for launch before end-2010 – and a bill on network neutrality and the Internet. This report provides an overview of Chile’s telecom sector and regulatory environment, accompanied by statistical data, analyses, and outlook.
