Synopsis
By the end of 2008 Canada had slipped another place on the OECD broadband penetration rankings. Although the current ranking of 10th is down from second place in 2002, broadband deployment continues to progress under active government encouragement, with over 95% of Canadians living in communities served by broadband access. Rapidly increasing demand for cable VoIP is in turn fuelling demand for cable broadband. Cable still leads DSL in terms of subscriber numbers whilst fibre deployments are starting to gain momentum. In contrast, despite the large number of WiMAX spectrum licences in the market, WiMAX developments are still largely a niche market. This report contains statistics, analysis and forecasts on the Canadian broadband sector.
