Synopsis

The company officially changed its name from Hong Kong Telecom to Cable & Wireless HKT (C&W HKT) in June 1999. HKT operates 20 satellite antennae from two earth stations on the south side of Hong Kong Island. In the past, International Direct Dial (IDD) service accounted for as much as 70% of company earnings. Internet and value added services could eventually account for 75% of company revenues.
