Listed on the São Paulo Stock Exchange and NYSE, Brasil Telecom is controlled by Solpart Participações, a consortium that includes Citigroup, Telecom Italia and Opportunity. Brasil Telecom is the dominant provider of local and intra-regional telephony in Brazil’s industrialised centre-south. It also offers domestic and international long-distance telephony since January 2004, and GSM mobile services since September 2004. It provides ADSL broadband services through its subsidiary BrT Serviços de Internet, and free dial-up access through its subsidiary ISPs iG and iBest. Following lengthy dispute between shareholders, Citigroup took control of Telecom in October 2005.
