Austria - Key Statistics, Telecom Market and Regulatory Overviews

Synopsis

Austria’s telecom market is dominated by the incumbent Telekom Austria and the cableco UPC, though there has been greater competitive pressure in the fixed-line and mobile sectors in recent years. The regulator has also encouraged local loop unbundling to improve competition in the broadband market, and has introduced ‘virtual’ unbundling in the fibre sector. This report presents key aspects of the Austrian telecom market in 2011, including statistical data on the country, the fixed network services sector and telecom infrastructure. It presents an overview of recent regulatory developments, including broadband access and carrier preselection. The major fixed network operators are also profiled, together with the most recent performance data and an analysis on market strategies.

Key developments:

Telekom Austria expands in CEE through additional acquisitions; infrastructure investment increases 25% in 2010; mobile sector revenue accounting for two-thirds of total telecom revenue; regulator’s end-2010 market data; operator data to Q1 2011.

Companies covered in this report include:

Telekom Austria, Tele2, tele.ring, eTel Austria, UPC Austria.
