Australia - Telecoms Industry - Coalitions Communications Policy - 2010

SYNOPSIS

After many months of negative politicking the Coalition launched its broadband policy two weeks before the election. As had been indicated before they will ‘kill’ the NBN and replace this with a National Broadband Commission who will oversee the implementation of their policies.

The key issues in their policies are:

  • Strengthening of competition under the Coalition’s Plan
  • Focus on peak speeds of 12 Mbps
  • Delayed introduction of fibre services

This report also contains two analyses issued directly after the announcement was made.
