Synopsis

Mobile broadband has taken off in recent years as subscribers respond to the operators expanding their 3G and 4G services. Dedicated fixed-wireless operators such as BigAir, Unwired and vividwireless continue to provide services to niche markets in major city areas.

Australia’s first 4G wireless broadband network was originally launched by the Seven Network’s wireless internet division – under the vividwireless name. In early 2012 vividwireless was acquired by Optus for $230 million, providing it with valuable spectrum in the 2.3GHz band.
