Australia - Government Policies - Federal Opposition Policies - 2001-2007

Synopsis

This report has been archived. Since 2001, the Labor Party – who has been in opposition from 1995 to 2007 - has proposed a number of initiatives contrasting with government policies. In 2001, the great policy initiative from Labor was the Knowledge Nation blueprint for the country. A year later in 2002, after failing to win government for a third time and with a new party leader, the Labor Opposition proposed a number of ways to combat Telstra’s market dominance and privatisation issues. In 2005 and 2006 they launched their views on broadband. However, in March 2007 they launched their comprehensive vision for a national telecommunications/broadband plan. The report ends when they won the election in 2007.
