Australia - Electronic Commerce Market - EDI

Synopsis

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) can be traced back to the post WWII period (1948) Berlin Airlift, where the co-ordination of airfreighted consignments of food and consumables was addressed by devising a standard documentation system. Electronic transmission reportedly began in the 1960s in the rail and road transport industries in the USA before spreading to the UK and Europe for international trade purposes. EDI is suited for reducing paper-based data exchange with the aim of reducing errors and handling time in inventory management, transport and distribution, administration and cash management. This report takes a look at developments since the 1990s to the Internet and XML.
