Australia - EFTPOS, ATMs - Overview and Stats

Synopsis

This report overviews the EFTPOS and ATM environment in Australia with a focus on the telecommunications aspects of the market. A statistical overview of the number of ATMs available, including off-premises ATMs, is given, alongside RBA and APCA data on EFTPOS terminals and transactions. The RBA’s look at direct charges replacing interchange and foreign fees is considered, while the telecommunications focus excludes detailed consideration of the credit card reforms. In addition to Telstra and Optus, the key independent operators are profiled. Some value-added developments are also noted.
