Australia - Digital TV - Interactive TV and EPGs

Synopsis

While IPTV services have been launched by a number of Internet service providers and some TV manufacturers including Samsung, Sony and LG, iTV has struggled to gain widespread popularity in Australia. However, concerns still remain about the emergence of a sustainable revenue model and the current lack of unified technical platforms.

Electronic program guides attempt to focus on the consumer by freeing them from the concept of watching live TV with the viewer able to watch what they want, when they want, and how little of the program to view by the time-shifting and fast-forwarding features.

Electronic program guide offerings are also available from some IPTV providers. For more information on the major players, see our separate report: Australia - Digital Media - IPTV - Major Players.
