Synopsis
This report was archived in September 2007 and has not been updated since July 2005. The international carriers have been operating in Australia for decades, some even for over 100 years. However, for most of their time they didn’t provide competition and mainly looked after their international customers for their operations in Australia. This started to change in the 1990s when BT launched an aggressive competition campaign, C&W bought Optus, SingTel first bought a share in AAPT, sold this and now owns Optus, TCNZ bought AAPT and WorldCom (now MCI) bought OzEmail.
