Synopsis
Despite a decade long battle of delays, instigated by Telstra, the competition has been winning ground. Admittedly their gains have been made in market shares and not in profits. Telstra still dominated 95% of all industry profits. Slowly but steadily the industry is forcing its way into the Internet economy. Broadband Service Providers need to move into triple play models in order to tap into new revenue streams, as traditional voice and access revenues are declining. Eventually structural separation will force a clearer distinction between infrastructure providers and retailers and content providers.
