Australia - Broadcasting and Digital TV - Analysis and Overview 2004

Synopsis

Despite a recovery, Free-to-Air (FTA) TV remains under pressure and the industry is rapidly losing millions of potentially young viewers to other media. The Digital FTA market is going nowhere, as initiatives of governments all around the world including Australia have failed to take off. However, the arrival of digital pay TV in early 2004 is expected to make a huge difference to the industry. Also as we reveal, Australian digital radio trials are now underway; however only genuinely new content is likely to convince people to switch over from analogue.
