Australia - Broadband - Home Area Networks

Synopsis

Home area networks (HANs) refers to networks deployed in residential premises. This report provides an overview of the market in Australia for the various components of home networks as well as analysis of developments and selected statistical estimates. In 2009 and 2010 home networking in Australia is likely to grow from being PC-centric to incorporating a variety of consumer electronics devices such as digital TVs and video recorders, digital media centres, set-top boxes and game consoles. Following global trends devices in use in Australia are likely to become increasingly sophisticated in the next five years and competition and cooperation between network operators and consumer electronics manufacturers is likely to increase. However, high broadband prices and a lack of widely adopted technical standards will hamper development of the market in Australia.
