Synopsis

This report covers central, eastern and south Eastern Europe on a geographical basis and includes Greece. It provides an overview and analysis of the developing telecommunications market in a region that is being shaped by regulatory, technological and market forces, focusing predominantly on the EU countries. The EU’s regulatory framework for communications has been pivotal in encouraging competition in the EU countries, leading to the launch of new services and increased variety for end users. Implementation of convergence technologies has allowed operators to offer triple play services in the fixed-line market while third generation mobile technologies has allowed provision of high-bandwidth content in the mobile market. As a result of both the aforementioned regulatory and technological developments, new players are entering communications markets, driving competition and market development.
