Synopsis

With the new focus on carbon emissions and energy saving, telecommunications has become more core to the utilities business. Broadband Power Line technologies are one of the technologies that can play a role here. Problems exist in relation to international standards and radio interference. The Australian Communications and Media Authority has created a regulatory environment that has resulted in several BPL trials and pilots. However, these trials didn’t result in commercial telco deployment. BPL is however, set to play a major role in the deployment of intelligent network also known as Smart Grids.
