Online services assists entertainment growth
A 2008 study by PriceWaterHouseCoopers found that with increased access to the Internet worldwide via both high-speed fixed services and mobile devices; online advertising and video games will assist in pushing sales in the overall entertainment and publishing industry to US$2.2 trillion in 2012.
Spending on Internet advertising is expected to drive this growth and will total around $120.4 billion in 2012, a rise of 20% per year from 2008.
Online and wireless video games, Internet ads and online movie rentals will together account for a combined 24% in growth over the next five years. Video-game consoles will also contribute with a growth of around 10% predicted for the period, reaching $68.3 billion in 2012.
