Paul Budde is the Managing Director of Paul Budde Communication. He is quoted in company prospectuses and his knowledge of the industry is a valuable resource at government level. He is frequently interviewed on radio and television current affairs and news programs, as well as by the leading national and international financial and business press.
Paul’s Strategic Workshops are a popular consultancy service to organisations, as well as to individual business executives. The workshops are conducted throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Paul holds a marketing degree from the Netherlands Institute for Marketing and since 1978 he has been involved in writing strategic plans and market reports for many of the world's leading companies involved in telecommunications and in digital media. He has advised European organisations and government authorities on the initiation, setting up and implementation of e-commerce and information services. He was involved in Europe's first broadband cable TV service in 1982 and established many public and private online services (now called Internet and intranet).
Since settling in Australia in 1983 Paul has also provided similar management consultancy services in the Asia Pacific region.
In 1996, he initiated the Electronic and Online Services Forum. In 2001, he organised a National Broadband Summit and initiated UtiliTel. The aim of these undertakings was to create an environment of improved understanding between major players in the industry. The following year he organised a Local Council Summit, which led to many ‘mini-summits’ around the country, all aimed at empowering local communities to set up their own broadbanding projects.
In 2006, following the government’s announcement of the $1 billion funding scheme for a regional wholesale broadband network, he established the Wholesale Industry Group, bringing together representatives from industry and government to work towards a national approach.
Also in 2006 Paul organised the Dutch-Australian Broadband Roundtable, at which both the Dutch Prime Minister, Peter Balkenende, and the Australian Minister for Communications, Helen Coonan, made presentations. In 2007 he organised an Australia/New Zealand Mission to the Netherlands.
He belongs to prominent national and international associations and has been involved in the organisation and chairing of various international conferences and events. He has regular meeting with ministers, company CEOs, politicians, regulators and government departments, both privately and within the context of the many industry initiatives with which he is associated.
At Now 2000 Paul received the Australian Industry Award for services to the industry. He was voted ‘Industry Advocate of the Year’ in the Communications Day readers' poll.
In the Information Industry section of ‘Power 2002: Who really runs Australia’ (published by the Australian Financial Review) Paul Budde is acknowledged for his influence as a prominent analyst.
Paul is also Chairman of the Convict Trail Project, which he initiated in 1995, to restore, maintain and promote the 240Km convict-built Great North Road between Sydney and the Hunter Valley. This has now grown into a multi-million dollar national heritage project.
Paul Budde holds the position of consultant on telecommunications and broadcasting with the Australian Macquarie Dictionary publications, and also provides information for a range of prestigious government publications (ABS, Foreign Affairs, Department of Communications, DIST).
